axle stands

In preperation for the winter I was toying with the idea of putting the caravan on axle stands. My questions are: is this a good idea and if so which stands are the correct ones. My caravan is a Bailey Pageant Bordeaux 2005 model.

Thanks

Hi Nick,

Its a good idea to get your caravan off its tyres if you do not intend using your van during the winter. I do not think that axle stands are such a good idea. They are ok for temporary use but they do not realy provide the stability for long use, a high wind could easily move and topple your van. I use winter wheels, these offer stability plus security as they have a security lock. I bought mine from Towsure but many caravan shops sell them.

Good luck.

JTS.

Hi nick

i have sat my van on heavy duty axle stands for winter , but i checked with my insurace provider and they give me the go ahead, i left 1 wheel on and covered it with a bin liner and fitted the wheel clamp back on with all 4 legs on van down its very stable hope this helps

Having just bought some axle stands i would like to take the weight off the wheels over winter, but although i would place the stands close as possible to the axle would this cause any problems like distotion of that part of the chassis?.

Whatever you do do not put axle stands under the chassis or jack up the van using the chassis. The stands should be on the axle using the plate at the back of the wheel.
