B3157 BRIDPORT TO WEYMOUTH

hi has anyone been on this road with caravan is it a suitable road to use or is it best to go long way round on a roads

thankz liz

Been a while since I was on this road, but I seem to remeber it as a bit narrow & twisty.

The road via Dorchester is only 5 miles longer, and much better, except that if I remember correctly there is quite a steep hill with hairpin as you come down into the outskirts of Weymouth.

I think it probably depends exactly where in Weymouth you are going.

Liz, there are no real problems with the road for towing. Burton Bradstock and Abbotsbury can though be a bit tight for large units if you hit them on a busy Sunday afternoon or meet a large vehicle coming the other way. The hill to Portersham is no to steep and in any case the hills on the A35 are just as bad.

My advice would be if you need to use it do so but if you were just towing from Bridport to Weymouth then use the A35 / A354.

Anything else you want to know about Dorset please ask. Ray

Anthony, No it is easy if you approach from A35 at Bridport. The road only gets more difficult btween Burton Bradstock and Weymouth which is after the access to Freshwater. Ray

Hi, if you go that way you'll have to go through Abbotsbury which has an extremely tight corner. There are signs there saying "unsuitable for long vehicles". It#s bad enough for a couple of large cars so forget trying to get a caravan through there.
