I read the request from Graham Arden and the reply in May's mag

I have just done this on our Ace Award Nightstar and obtained all the parts via the service dept and Swift

The door came with a matching infill so that saved a bit of work and cost a bit more

Altogether and including 2 locks to be the same as the van original it cost £84 with my labout FOC

I always make a template from card and stick this on to the van side with both pieces(inside and outside)so that there is no marking of the panel with the jigsaw sole plate

There was a lot of lining up with adjacent lockers done before starting to cut

There was only one snag and that was a woodscrew in the centre at the bottom coming up through the van floor that required a U turn with the jigsaw and going in the opposite direction until it was met from both sides

I used mastic tape to seal the unit in place

Our Nightstar is the same layout as the 490 I think and I have removed the bunk and rear seating and constucted a lift up bed base that is now topped with a double bed size foam mattress with memory foam top.

It gives a bed 7ft by 4ft 6in and is very comfortable

Hope that helps

Hi Dave

He wanted to know where to get the parts and cost etc in doing it.

It was stated that the van was used as a fixed rear bed which is why I included the way that we have modified ours
