This is our 2nd trip out and we thought as it was a bank holiday we would try a CL for this weekend.

The weather was so bad, after sooo much rain we turned up at the CL site to find it very sodden and muddy....luckily we have a freelander to we pulled it into the field no problem. No one else could join us in the field, a motorhome was on hardstanding outside the CL gate and a poor chap towing in a rover attempted the field but went out again and had to pitch near the gate.

So we had the whole site to ourselves really....on a bank holiday! we had the whole dog exercise area to ourselves and it was adults only - so no children either.

Everything got muddy no matter how we tried, I took umpteen dog towels and blankets with us, but it hasnt put us off CL'S, I like the fact there are no facilities, peace and quiet and as the weather was so bad we completely relaxed as there was nothing to do apart from read, play cards, drink tea and watch the rain on the windows.

We have another CL booked up for 2 weeks time, and we are really looking forward to it!

Sarah ,Sorry to hear the weather was so bad but thats the beauty of England This time last year we were in Cornwall and we were in shorts it was so warm .

In 2 weeks time on your next trip you will need plenty of sun creame and lots of ice cube bags for the fridge .

Sarah

Sorry to hear about the bad weather. We're trying a CL next weekend, it's bound to rain, the farmer has a tractor so hopefully he'll tow us across.

We've also booked an adults only CL for July (child away on a school trip). We'd probably use them all the time but it would be very boring for our daughter.

Let us know how you get on after your next trip.

Lisa,...fingers crossed - i think you will be lucky, they forecast nicer weather for this week. I agree about CL'S and children...even if our site wasnt adult only - the kids would have been very bored...unless they were plane spotters - we were on the Bristol Airport flight path...in the end we had to laugh -

rain, wind, mud, wet, wet dog, muddy caravan and planes overhead! it couldnt have got any worse!

Sorry but you've just made me laugh.

We went away last September for a weekend. Our daughter stopped with her grandma.

As soon as I hitched up, the rain started. We stopped in the grounds of a stately home with no facilities. It never stopped raining there, we didn't have a porch awning so the dog insisted on jumping through the door and shaking all over the place, mud everywhere. An old chap took offence when I accidentially drove over his electric cable. We had to close all the curtains in the end because he kept walking by and looking in.

When we left, as soon as I'd driven about five miles towards home, out came the sun.

I always expect bad weather then if it's ok, it's a bonus.

im glad we can laugh lisa!

If its wet next time we go - then we know that this little cloud is following us everywhere we go.

I dont know what i would do without out porch awning - the dog is dried down and eats out there and hubby smokes out there. But this weekend even with the ground sheet down our whole area around the outside of the van was like we'd had a stampede of shire horses and when we pulled off our pitch resembled glastonbury after the festival.

The caravan needs a good "valet" before our next trip,...here's hoping the hoover doesnt burn out cos the dog was moulting too!!

Ah well...still love caravanning tho!!!!

Just a suggestion I have experienced similar conditions myself and found that it can be a bit depressing and note you played cards, watched the rain and drank tea my tip is forget the tea move on to wine or something even stronger if the weather is really bad firstly it gets you so you dont care and if you have enough ( or should that be too much)you sleep better because you don't hear the rain on the roof!

Made me laugh too. We went to Ponden Mill last weekend. We had a great weekend, really nice site. It rained A LOT !. I agree, the red wine really helps you to forget the rain. So much that we fell a asleep half way through the Eurovision ...i know that's not hard, but we didn't wake up until afer 1.00m !!
