Reading other post on here about someone looking for a roof light after a storm ripped his off. Got me thinking, if a storm/bad weather is forecast is it worth taping down roof light ? Does anyone do it already? Interested to read replys,
I think it important to ensure any roof lights are securely latched in the fully closed position. If they are it's difficult to see how they could be damaged/ripped off by wind, they survive being towed into strong head winds! (Admittedly that wind is in a specific direction) We have all seen caravans with rooflights open whilst being towed, so they were clearly not fully secured before setting off.
To tape them down you would have to get up onto roof, ensure the roof is spotlessly clean before applying any tape, and then access the roof again to remove it all.
....the plastic in roof lights becomes brittle with age with cracking often forming around the mounts.
Their position on the roof exposed to what sun there is doesn't help and they are not usually regularly inspected.
Towing or just high winds can remove them, even when closed!
The recent poster that lost his had a 24 year old caravan.
