Morning All
Wonder if anyone else has had the same problem with their water system as I currently have. A few weeks back I had a problem with a foul taste in the water on my van. As I live in it during the week for work this is a big issue. Anyway I drained the system down and flushed it through with fresh water (the supply on site is perfect) then filled the system with a Milton solution. Left it overnight then drained and flushed etc. This seemed to cure the problem. Anyway a few weeks later and the problem has returned. Can anyone give me any pointers here?

Peter this is just a thought, how do you get your water supply?
Are you on a serviced pitch with direct feed to aquaroll, if so have you got Food Grade hose and NOT normal hosepipe.
Or you could do what we do, Never drink water from van always use 5 Litre containers direct from tap. Just use aquaroll for washing dishes etc.

Another thought; thought the Milton was only to be left in for a short period, and not over night, I may be wrong on that one!!

A couple of years back there were a series of forum posts about the bacteria that lives in caravan water pipes and in common with many others I would never drink from a caravan water system no matter how often I flushed it with Milton.
We carry a couple of plastic bottles and use drinking water and fill the kettle etc from the site tap, we only use the caravan system for washing and washing up.

I have been using Aquasol in my water system for last 18 months. A 250ml bottle cost around £7 to £8. You put 1 cap full into your aquaroll for every 25 litres. I have found it very good. I start with 2 caps for my 50 litre tank and after a few days drop to 1 cap full. Since using it I have not changed the filter on the supply hose and water always seems good.

Where possible I use service pitches , so that I can connect direct to the water container .
On my last trip I was staying at a site near oxford, I noticed after a week my clear water container which was on the very hot sunny side of the caravan, was developing green algae within the container mainly on the internal floor, of the container, I disconnected from the water supply tap poured in a solution of liquid Milton left the water container for 1/2 hour then gave it a good internal clean and rinse which solved the problem.
Had the water container been the standard barrels that you see, I would have not seen the green algae, Thank goodness we never drink any water from the cold tap.

You got the algae in the clear water container BECAUSE it was clear, due to sunlight passing through! That is why aquarolls and similar are thick and opaque to stop sunlight passing through. ;)

Regarding the use of Milton, it should never be left in the system for longer than 30 minutes as it can have adverse effects on the water heater tank, which is NOT covered by any warranty.

I can recommend Truma's Aquastar 1+2 this will clean & purifies & descales the water system & the hot water boiler thttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/350980173521?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108

Contrary to other forumites we do drink water direct from the caravan taps.
But. We clean the aquarolls and on board tank plus pipes with Milton solution before each use. On average that's monthly ish.
However the water filter must be removed a day not contaminated with Milton.
Against Whales best advice we change the filter twice a year.
As Damien said do mot leave Milton on the system more than 30 mins. It corrodes the hot water tank.
An you more accurately describe the problem taste?

We also use our caravan water system as we do at home ......that is we use the cold water at the kitchen sink for drinking.
We do however keep the system clean.
We do not use Aquarolls or store the water outside the caravan.
The storage is in 2 translucent 25 litre jerry cans which are stored inboard in the front locker.
The water is kept cool in summer and frost free in winter.
The jerry cans are renewed every 2nd year regardless.
Never had a problem or had a bad taste.

Having said that I always buy bottled water when in Spain where it costs next to nothing as their water supply cannot be trusted!
