I own a 2005 Bailey Pageant 6 berth caravan which i purchased in March 2006 from the main Bailey dealers whom are based in Huddersfield. The van was second hand and was approximately 8 months old when i bought it.
The van was in excellent condition or so i thought.
During the summer of 2006 upto the present time, my caravan has a very distinctive 'fishy' smell coming from the surface of the internal wall board on the nearside. I reported this to the supplying dealer in Sept 2006 and after being extremely patient, they finally took it in for repairs in Feb 2007 for over 6 weeks.
I was told by the dealer that Bailey had decided that the smell was coming from the glue used to stick on the vinyl wallpaper and that the entire covering be stripped and repapered.
I collected my van just before the half-term holidays and was told that they had indeed repapered the panel under warranty.
During my first trip of the season to Derbyshire over the half-term holidays, the smell was and still is as bad as ever. I have tried disinfecting the panel but the smell just returns.
As soon as i returned home, i telephoned the dealer again to complain and i am now told that they will probably now have to replace the entire wall board. Incidently, i cannot see any sign's of their previous repair and i am now wondering whether they actually did what they said they had done?
I am now waiting again for the dealer to contact me with a definative answer but from past experience, i am not anticipating a speedy resolution. Also, i informed them that the surface temperature of the inner panel was colder on the nearside than the offside and have asked them whether this is relevant?
I would really welcome some advice from my fellow caravanners on the best course of action to take with my dealer and/or Bailey?
Has anyone else got this smelly problem with any 2005 Bailey caravan? If so, what was the cure?
Any help and advise would be most welcome.
Many thanks.
