My 2005 Bailey Ranger 470/4 has a large front window. The 2 parts of the window are expanding away from each other, caused apparentaly by my keeping the silver blind closed and the suns rays feflecting against it and heating up the window. The mechanic has said that it is 'blown' and will need a new window costing about £1,000. Is this right. What would happen if I remove the bung on the inside window and let the gas escape.

It's probably not the air inside expanding that's causing the problem because it's unlikely that the window is airtight enough to let that happen, but I would suspect that it's more a matter of the expansion of the plastic in the middle while being restrained around the periphery. If that is the case, it's a design problem that would only repeat itself if a new window were fitted (unless it has since been modified). If removing the bungs doesn't cure the problem (which I doubt it will) I'd approach Bailey's and point it out to them. Maybe they have fixed it in the meantime with a design change or can offer a field service fix.
Sorry but the cost is right, my 2006 Sprite Alpine 4 large front window was cracked by road debris; cost to replace inc VAT £911.99, I just paid the £100 excess.
the window alone was £665.00. Have a word with your insurance, accidental damage!
Give Miriad Products a call they supply the windows to Bailey.It is easy enough to change it yourself about 15 min job.
We replaced our large front window (bigger than a Sprite as our caravan is wider) for less than a quarter of that price. We had it made at EECO in Shelf (Exhaust Ejector Co) who specialise in caravan windows. They make it to the exact tint of the existing window, but they do need our old window as a 'mould'. We took it over ourselves (but they do a collection and delivery service) and removed and fitted ourselves. It was an easy enough job, perhaps an hour removing and an hour fitting, as there are lots of handle and stays to take off, and the only difficult part was hiding the fact that the caravan didn't have a front window for the few days it took them to make it.
