Bailey Ranger Spare Wheel 4 or 5 stud??

Hi everyone.

Does anyone know what sort of spare wheel I would need to fit a 2006 Bailey Ranger 470/4? I know the tyre size is 185/65 R14 but I am unsure wether to buy a 4 or 5 stud?? The reason I ask is that I am looking out for one on a well known auction website as I do not want to pay £90 from a dealer. The van is costing enough therefore I am trying to save money wherever possible. So if I look out for the exact tyre size and the relevant 4/5 stud fitting is there anything else I need to know? I can't even try on the van as I don't collect till start of next season. Any help greatly appreciated. Many Thanks. Dan.

Hello Daniel

Simply knowing the rimsize and the number of studs is not enough. You will also need to know the pitch circle for the studs.

The simplest and best way is to check the wheels on the caravan and make an note of all the markings on the wheel rim. There should be a code of some description that will define the rim design.

Just knowing whether the wheels are 4 or 5 stud is not going to help you. They have to have the same pitch diameter and wheel offset (distance between the centreline of the tyre and the wheel hub face), as well.

Ok everyone thanks for your help. Looks like the dealer could be the safest option. Thanks for that information Roston. I'll see what noseweight is like when I get van. I'm gonna be looking at under 75kgs also as I will be towing with a Vauxhall. Thanks again. Dan.

Ewan I've recently heard of someone else doing the same thing. Think I'll do just that. You obviously think along the same lines of me... Who wants to pay

The tyre fitted to my Ranger was a Trailermaxx. Some retailers had not heard of it. However, a bit of homework found out it was manufactured by Maxxis and is readily available on back order. Ewan
