Allan; I had the same issue. I had (still have !) a Mercedes C250 which has a max node weight limit of 75 kg; however my Senator Oklahoma has a noseweight of around 90kg. I had to buy a tow car capable of towing the van; that's what I had to do. I think you'll find that whilst you could weight the rear of the van to counter balance it; this would then imapact stability and I suspect you'd have to add a significant weight in order to bring down the resultant noseweight by around 28kg ...

However, more knowledgeable people will now give you their views.

I have the same van when empty the nose weight is 100kg with my uncalibrated bathroom scales (nose weight gauge only goes up to 85kg) with 2x6kg gas cylinders plus wastemaster and leads etc the nose weight is about 130kg. Tows like a dream, my vehicle max nose weight is 150kg Your dealer should have done a towsafe check for you before he sold it to you.GS

Hi Allan,

The complete range of Baley vans have a nose weight range between 0.50Kg to Max of 100kg, I am limited to 0.75kg which is the max weight for the towball fitted to my Vauxhall Vectre Estate, (as per Vauxhall manual).

To keep with the limitations I have the spare wheel fitted to a Alko carrier fitted underneath.Only have qty 1 gas bottle in the front locker, all items of weight are positioned and secured over the wheel arches within the van.

Food we purchase on site using Tesco site finder on the web to locate the nearest store.

We have no Children, so a tv dvd player, lightweight SunnCamp Scenic Porch awning and other items all go on the back seat, and the rear footwells, The Dog occupying the estate part.

When we first loaded our present van Ranger series 5 460/4 fixed rear bed, found the nose weight was 95kg(using the bathroom scales for accurate reading remember you must be on level ground when you do the test)

By removing items from the front locker managed to get the nose weight down to just below 0.75kg, I did this without loading rear of the wheel arches, First trip out the van was very stable on the M11 even when we were passed by the car transporters which i have found can sometimes cause all sorts wind currents.

Hi,

If your caravan has an Alko chassis the maximum nose weight is 100kgs irrespective of the maximum nose weight of your vehicle. The 100kgs. is usually stamped on the caravan tow hitch. I know from other caravanners experiences if involved in an insurance claim or a roadside police check, exceeding 100kgs. can have serious implications.
