Hi, I have a Bailey Series 5 which will soon be 3 years old and am still very pleased with it. Noramlly we cahnge our vans before water ingress becomes a problem. If the Baileys are good for 6 years water ingress warranty then their second hand values should hold up well, but this should become clearer as more Series 5s get a bit older. Has anyone had a problem with a Series 5 yet?

Hi other Clive,

We too have a Baileys series 5 caravan and reckon it to be the best built caravan we have ever had,we have discussed using the clear waterproof tape that one can put around all the seam and joints as an extra precaution against water ingress, we do put a cover over the caravan during the winter months.Do you and others think we are doing the right thing?Would welcome any views.Jim

hi,other clive,

we have a series 5 burgundy and on being checked at first service they found water ingress [30%] at the rear, above the bed. Before going in for a reseal i checked it with a damp meter and could find only normal readings?.I took it in anyway and they did the reseal.Other than that,no problems!.Our friends have series 5 vendee and series 5 provence with no water ingress.

We have a 2005 series 5 Mosselle, no problems with leaks but with the sprung seating going a bit flat, this seams to be because of cheap lightweight springs used to save on weight, Bailey do not want to know as I am the secound owner & the warranties are not tranferable even when they have been fully serviced, I have been told this has now changed with newer vans, but we are still pleased with the van overall.

Hi Clive

We have just traded in our March 2005 Pageant S5 Vendee. No sign of any leaks at all. Always serviced by our dealer who carried out the mandatory Bailey damp test. These vans are good for their 6 year warranty PROVIDING a Bailey dealer does the annual damp test.

So what are you worried about??

Cheers

Alan

Hi Clive

I have a Bailey Pageant series 5 Champagne I purchased this van in June and it was 9 months old (first registered in September 2006) on its first annual service at a Bailey registered centre they reported 27% dampness in the front right hand roof section, fortunately I had the warranty transferred to my name when I purchased the van and Bailey have honoured the warranty, it is to go in for repair at the Caravan Hospital.

It looks as if the leak is on the front roof seam; I was annoyed because the Caravan dealership that I purchased this van off in Pyle, South Wales must have been aware of the problem as they failed to give me a PDI report even after several requests for it.

Bailey have been first class as we also reported mould staining on the Heiki roof blind and this is also being replaced under warranty at the same time.

Hope this helps Stu

We have had no problems with leaks other than a very slight one from the front window seals now replaced under warranty

Jim I met someone in Brittany with a new Oklahoma and he was having a dispute between himself and Bailey and the caravan cover manufacrurer as the cover had damaged/marked the paintwork

I have found slight marking where the Fiamma Zip canopy bag rests when stored and that didn't happen on the previous 3vans (Bailey,Cleremont.Ace)

I noticed on our previous caravan, a 2005 Bailey Ranger 470/4, that there was a gap in the sealant on the awning rail adjacent to the top of the front window. This was apparent on both sides of the van.

The sealant around the shower tray had also started to separate despite only being used on no more than 2 occasions.

IMHO, perhaps some of the water ingress/damp problems being reported would not happen if Bailey were a little less conservative in the application of sealant.

Martin.
