Bailey Unicorn Shower

The shower door on my Unicorn Cartegena S2 has become cracked (my fault) and will need replacing. One of the things that has always annoyed me about this otherwise excellent 'van is the corner shower. I notice that the S3 Cartegenas/ Barcelonas have gone back to the rectangular shower as fitted in the S1 Barcelona.

Would it be possible to replace the shower tray and door in my S2 with one from an S3? I know I'd need to move the heated towel rail but the shower wall lining material covers the whole of the exterior walls and I would only need to buy a sheet of similar material from a DIY outlet (or maybe order it direct from Bailey along with the new tray and door) in order to cover the inside wall.

Has anyone done this? I suspect that there may be warranty problems but can forum members forsee any other problems?

Hi Paul
Sorry to say you are learning the hard way.
My 2008 Senator Wyoming has the full size rectangular shower.
BUT the back end wasn't plastic clad.
I bought the special plastic cladding from a firm in Bristol and made a fully line shower cubicle which we enjoy today.
I got Bailey's permission so as not to prejudice the Warranty. They agreed I writing. Strangely enough subsequent models had oem fully lined showers
You can do the same. Measure the shower tray size you need. I suggest thus will be the Wyoming size or the latest Unicorn 3 size.
If yo go ahead with the mod and with Bailey's ok I can tell you thename of tthe Bristol firm who do the plastic lining. Bailey may tell you them selves.
The difference in area of the shower is plus 25%.

Thanks Dustydog - any idea of the price of the shower tray, door and lining material?

We moved up from an Indiana so the shower was bigger - in hindsight, just not big enough.

Paul.
See above link. They will help you. Tell them the dimensions and what you doing.
You are looking at a 2 / 3mm white plastic sheet.
They cut panels to whatever size you want.
As for the shower tray I '. Look at the Unicorn 3 and see how that fits.
Or take your own measurements and see what's available from Bailey and others

I've heard from Bailey that the S3 shower won't fit because, apparently, quote - the Series III shower walls are integrated and laminated into the side and back wall during manufacture, the balance of the shower, wall, tray, door, tap pod etc. etc. are unique to the series III.- unquote. Seems as though they don't want people improving their design! I've asked them about the S1 Barcelona, which had a retangular shower but am expecting a similar answer. As I live in France I can't just go and look at an S3 but a friend here has an S1 Barcelona so I'll go and size that up.

Hi Paul.

Do You have the exact rectangle measurement?
My Senator Wyoming rear end bathroom is virtually the same as your Unicorn. It probably wouldn't be too difficult to shoe horn it in. Similarly it will be worth checking out other makers trays. The actual shower door on mine is an after fit not modular. The plastic lining as I said before is readily available.in the UK. Don't know about France

Hi Dustydog, the distance between the end wall and the inside wall is 87cm, maximum width is 70cm - how does this compare with the Wyoming?

Thanks Paul
Interesting,
I've measured the Wyoming. Length 95cms
width at maximum 70cm.
The door is 177cms by 47cms.

Back to the drawing board and follow up Deli Dave's suggestion. I do hope you find what you need. Shame you cannot easily visit a main UK dealer and take your measure with you. Are the French dealers any good .

As you say - back to the drawing board! I've got a friend here who has an S1 Barcelona so I'll see how that compares when I see him. I was keen to keep the conversion to "proper" Bailey parts.
French dealers are hopeless with British 'vans but I suppose that's to be expected!

Thanks for your help.
