Hi, last week after defrosting the fridge I noticed some water on the floor. I'd been most careful and put several towels inside the fridge and gathered up the ice as it melted so don't think the water was from that. I lifted the seat next to the fridge which houses the water heater etc and the floor was really wet. I mopped it all up and put kitchen towel done then checked the pipes for any obvious breaks etc. All seemed ok and I cleared the paper away. I then emptied a washing up bowl down the sink, went away for a few minutes and when I came back there was more water! Drain pipe, I thought! But how do I get at it? Local repair man said to remove the top one of the two grills out side the van to access the pipes but how do I get it off? The don't seem to be any obvious screws. Help!

The fridge vents on my 2012 Lunar are 'room sealed' from the rest of the van, so in my case removing them would not give access to the waste pipe. I don't know if your van would be the same. However I needed to check my pillar tap recently and found the round sink was only held in by 4 screws which were relatively easy to remove and when the sink was removed there was plenty of space to access the waste pipe.

If you have a Thetford fridge the outer covers have a slide lock, one on each side of each cover, located tucked away at the top of each cover.
Slide them towards the middle to unlock then ease the cover off.
Having defrosted the fridge it is most likely that the drip container at the back of the fridge is full and overflowing.
Remove the lower vent cover and remove the container sitting on the cooling matrix.
It is a tight fit so remove as much water as you can before unclipping the container.(It just pulls upwards)
Make sure you clip it back correctly.

Thanks Damien, I'll try that. The back of the fridge was heavily iced over and I was concerned that if I left it just to defrost on its own it would flood the caravan - that's why I put a couple of towels it catch the ice/water as I applied gentle heat with a hairdryer from outside the fridge. I'll do as you suggest when I go down to the van this weekend. I usually use a mobile caravan team to do work on the van - have used them since we bought it from new to service the van for warranty etc but they are busy until Sept and I'll like to get if sorted. The water if definitely coming from around the fridge - there is no sign of it coming from the water heater as kitchen paper that I put down after the original mopping up is dry under the heater. I'll keep you posted - thank you!

We have the same Wyoming from new.
Last year the kitchen tap itself leaked soaking the floor around the Truma water heater and pump. The water had gone under the lino and started creeping up the wall. I removed part of the lino and wallboard lining. It took a while to dry out before the damp reading reduced to normal. A replacement tap was easily fitted through the fridge vents. Well moderately easy.
We use our Wyoming a lot and have never had problems with the overflow tank.

Damian.
Is the overflow tank an evaporation system relying on heat to disperse excess water? I have to admit I've never checked it and don't recall our mobile engineer looking at it. Thanks in advance

Hi Dustydog, thank you for your reply. It doesn'y appear that the water has got under the lino but had got under the plastic covering that I had never removed when we bought the van from the dealer. I've had to cut that section away to make sure I'd dried all the water up.Thankfully, there doesn't appear to be any damp up the van walls. How did you remove the fridge vents and did you remove one or both?

Sorry for the delay in replying.
Dometic vent covers usually have two 1/4 turn buttons , one on each end of the vent which lock the cover to the frame, however, some caravans have the new type of vent cover and use two small slide locks, either one on each end of the vent or as Thetford, at the top

Hi Damien, there is no obvious screw on either vent. The only thing I can see is something that looks like a screw cover which has a plastic clip on it. Probably not the best description but I'm worried about pushing the clip up in case it breaks - plastic does get brittle with age doesn't it. Is the screw under that?

Have a look at this link, the last 3 images on that page show the types of locks and the flue kit, ignore the flue kit.
