How to disconnect water pipe/pump push fitting?

Hi all. I'm having problems with my water pump and wish to remove it to see if I can find the issue.

Unfortunately I'm stuck at step one... removing the water pipe from it.

Does anyone know how to disconnect this water pipe fitting please?? I don't want to cause damage that can't be undone.

It should be possible to slide the collar slightly towards the elbow, and then the joint should pull apart.
