We are looking at purchasing one of the two above caravans. it will be our first family van and they both appear to be great value and are within our max weight range for our 1.6 Ford Focus C-Max. Has anyone any advice or feedback about the two caravans that will help us to decide or recommend any other lightwieght vans.

Also we would be interested in hearing from any one who towes with the 1.6 petrol C-Max.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi - we were on site last month pitched next to a couple who had an avondale dart. They had just had it in for its first service and was told it needed a panel replacing due to cracks. We own a Bailey Ranger and have been delighted with it. We had a couple of minor glitches which Bailey themselves put right by sending the new bitso ut in the post so we didn't have to drag it back to the dealer. Also we could use any on the Bailey dealers throughout the UK for its service. The service from Bailey has been fantastic.

Hi,

I had an Avondale new in 2004 and I would go back to a tent before buying another, the customer service is non existant, if you have a problem they will pretty much tell you to sod off, many other Avondale owners have made similar comments on this forum. I have never owned a Bailey but we were close to buying a Wyoming a couple of years ago, they look excellent for the money and seem to give good service from what I have read on here, also Chipping Sodbury Caravans is a name I have never heard anything negative about, a good dealer can make a problem acceptable if dealt with quickly, I would check out the dealers near you or be willing to travel to a good one.

I know a lot of people slate Avondales but we have an Avondale Dart 510/5 and have had no problems whatsoever. We bought from Reads in Blackburn and again have had no problems with them..and we bought new at a good price. Van is now a year old. My hubby is very fussy and if he can't find anything wrong with it, it must be OK.

We were really restricted to weight (and cost) and there wasn't a lot of choice but we are very happy with the van.

I hope I won't be eating my words later!!!!

Chris,

Obviously you have hit upon people who love bailey's, and rightly so. They are a good quality van. But just a word, find a retailer that stocks both of the vans you are looking at, compare them both by going from one to the other for atleast an hour, tell the sales reps to get lost while you decide as they will also swing you into which van they have personal preferences for. Avondale have made substantial progress and the quality of the dart is very good.

Make your own decision.

Being a retailer who could sell you either caravan i'm able to give impartial advice

Chris,

We've had a dart 510/5 for year from new and can't fault it. Easy to pull and build quality excellent. No probelms at all so far.

Dealer even gave us his personal mobile number to phone at any time in case we had any problems day or night. I did phone him once at 9.30 one Friday night when I couldn't work out how to close the large front window ( my fault - doh!).
