Hi all

Just got my self a little 2nd hand caravan

the caravan is wired up for mains as well as 12v.

What I would like to do is fit a charger in to the van and leave it perm connected to the battery also connected to the mains

so when Im on site or at home. The caravan is connected to the mains and the battery is charged or topped up ect

is it safe to still use the 12v in the van ie lights TV run off the battery while the charger is still charging.also any recommendations on good chargers.I have 2 110ah leisure batteries

cheers Roger

Hi, i think if you buy a charger with a needle showing the amount of charge going into the battery you can then monitor how much work the charger is having to do to keep the battery toped up. the batterys your using should not go flat in a hurry if fully charged in the first place. then as you switch items on you can see if the charger has little or lots of work to do to keep the battery usable, when i had a cb and amp i had a charger connected to the battery but you must make sure that the wires feeding into the caravan from the battery dont touch the clips of the charger, reason for this is the charger is not a smooth current were as the battery is, also if you do let the wires touch the clips the charger will be inline and be running flat out.

It's a case of try it and watch the needle, my mother has a narrow boat and a charger to keep the 12 volt side of the electrics up to scratch but her charger cost ove
