batteries

Helllo everyone i'm new to the site i want to know what are the best batteries for caravans as i dont know what different types there are

Thanks

William, there is a choice of battery out there, and you will get various views on the best type, but, generally a Leisure type is better for caravanning as they are designed to cope with long steady discharge, unlike a normal car battery which is designed for heavy but short drain.

There are various types of Leisure battery, from the normal Lead/Acid type to the carbon fibre type, but prices reflect the difference in makeup.

You can pick up a lead/acid type for around

Hi,

whatever battery you choose you can get the best life from it by periodically charging it witha good qualty leisure charger which takes it above the 13.8 v that you van's charger provides. Newer vans now have cahrgers that go up to 14.6v but these tend to be rare. I use a CTEK pulse cahrger and take the batery out periodicaly to charge it. Especally over any long lay off it needs a periodic charge or to be held on float. There are now seperate chargers that can be installed into the van to keep the battery at the best cahrge level. These are advertised in CC and C&CC mags as well as PC.
