having an heavy duty (up 1500kg) caravan mover fitted in 2 weeks, I have been advised that a 110AMP battery would give me extra power going uphill, battery on van now is 80 AMP and in good condition, do I really need the more pwerful battery?

Leisure batteries don't cope well with the high current drawn by motor movers - the higher the Ah capacity the less damage is done.

Car starter batteries cope more than adequately with mover current demand but won't cope with the deep cycle demand.

IF you always use sites with EHU, use a good car battery - anything from 55Ah would be adequate.

IF, however, you use sites without EHU then the 110Ah leisure battery is recommended to avoid shortening the life of anything less.

If you've already got a serviceable 80Ah battery, I'd suggest continuing to use it until it expires and then get something more suitable.

I had a mover fitted to my 1500kg van earlier this year. I use an 80Ah battery and it copes easily with manouvering my van in and out of its storage spot and for getting from a road onto a plot on a site.

As Roger says use your battery until it gives up and then replace.

I tried a 110Ah battery in my van compartment (Bailey) and it was a very tight fit and it was difficult to fit cables and battery. The battery would not push far enough back into the compartment when it was sitting in it's tray. I kept my 80Ah battery, which the mover fitter said was adequate.

Can only comment that when I fitted the motormover to my 1st van it was recommended to get a 110 amp battery. It has worked well up till now. I do not have the luxury of a posh battery compartment, it lives in a box under the seat and all sizes fit fine. Possibly a case of cheap and cheerful works best???

If you phone powrtouch they will tell you that a 85Amp is more than adequate if you regularly charge it with a 2/3 stage charger to keep it in top form as a caravan charger only charges to about 80% of full capacity, this goes whether a 85 or 110 batery is used
