Battery charger failure.

Was away for an eagerly awaited week away for Halloween, last week, but unfortunitly the charger in our 2008 van gave up the ghost, this in turn put the on board pump, 12v lihghts, and fridge out of commission, until we got a full charge at a near by garage.

we did have the mains supply for the main lights, fridge, tv etc, we then only used the battery for the display on the fridge to keep it going, and occasional 12v lights and radio.

Admittedly, we did not have the usual creature comforts of running water, and stacks of lights, but I have to say, going back to the good old days of getting washed in the main blocks, and meeting others, for a bit of craic collecting our daily ration of water in flasks, kettles, ets,and doing the washing up in the dish washing area brought back great memories from my "tenting" days with my parents.

It was actually more fun this way, than the way things seem to have gone with the blinds being pulled down early in the evening, with very few meeting up within the park, no interaction, and no banter.

The van goes back to the dealer today, for a repair, but will miss the craic without it.

.. My outfit is highly modified as regards the 12 volt electrics, with 400amp hours of storage in 3 batteries, 2 of which are on the tow vehicle and are charged whenever the engine is running.

This means I am often on sites and do not use the EHU. these are usually Camping and Caravan Club sites where non-EHU pitches are cheaper.

To save gas I use the main blocks for washing up and showers etc.

I agree you get to meet many more of your fellow campers this way and the banter develops.

If I use an EHU, I tend not to use the blocks so much and mixing is more difficult as you describe.
