battery charging when tiwing

i have a 09plate Kia Sorento towing a 2010 Bailey pegasus 524 just had a towbar fitted with a 13pin plug when i picked up the vehicle the fitter informed me that when towing he said that the battery would not be charged from the car when in tow .can anyone tell me if this is correct as when i had the 2x7 pins on older vans/cars they charged the battery when in tow . your comment please
thanks Duggie

It would if he had wired that feature up.
Its not a legal requirement so might not have been included in the price.
It requires an isolating relay so is not a low cost feature and is often left off even factory fitted towing electrics.

It is worth checking if he has also left off the fridge supply and returns, together with the maintained 12 volt feed.

Thanks JTQ for reply i have had a few wired up and was always included in the wiring so will get back to fitter and findout if was included in the price .just thought it was always done with the Kia dedicated wireing kit (you live and learn ) .fridge is done o.k
thanks Duggie.

Most, if not all, dedicated wiring kits for import cars do not have th efridge or battery charging circuits wired fo rsome strange reason.
They are usually an "extra" and must be specifically asked for or they dont get done.

Also your ATC needs the live supply i believe.
Make sure the fitter uses two 2.5mm cables from the battery, one for the fridge, the other for the charging/ live.
If your caravan has the "larger" fridge, two 3mm cables are recommend, due to voltage drop.

The reason why import cars do not have a battery charging circuit connected as a matter of course is because very few caravans on the Continent have a battery, so the car manufacturers do not appreciate the demand.

Do they just run on AC hook up then?
