Battery charging

I'm not very good with electrics and need some clarification. I have been putting on charge our Pageant Imperial (built in 2000) about once a month and notice in the hand book that there is a battery condition light under the front berth which I haven't been able to find. Also in the hand book it says that a fully charged battery should indicate 13.8 volts, this seems high to me, what should it be? The volt meter is showing 12.5 at the moment. Also is there some way to tell if the battery is being charged?

13.8V is spot on for an onboard charger (on), if you charge with a stand alone charger you can charge to 14.4V (Elecsol) or 14.8V for a standard leisure battery and you will get longer frem the battery.

On board chargers are limited to 13.8V to prevent overcharging, sulphation and gassing.

If the battery is reading 12.5V and you connect the charger(turn it on) you should see an immediate rise followed by a slow rise to voltages above.

It sounds like yours is functioning properly.
