hi all i have just purchased a new power point leisure battery,and as i am not getting new caravan for eight weeks i connected battery up to my ctek charger to keep it fully charged ready for use and have just noticed the battery has been leaking through the vent/breather pipe quite a pool of liquid had gathered around the bottom of battery and that was only after two days of being connected to the charger,i might add that the previous battery i had was a numax and that was connected via the same charger in garage over winter period i only changed the battery because it was sold with the caravan not because of a fault i cant contact the supplier because of the bank holiday to ask about this at that rate the battery would be dry within a couple of weeks, any thoughts anyone ps hve taken battery off charge.h

First of all take the battery off charge, and clean up the liquid
WARNING, the liquid may quite acidic, so wear rubber gloves, and wash down the battery and area with a solution of washing soda to neutralise and acidic residues. Dry thoroughly.
As you have plenty of time between now and getting the caravan, you can wait and contact the battery supplier after Easter.

Sounds as though the fluid level was too high to start with.
As you charged the battery it heated up and the fluid expanded and came out of the breather tube.
Just trickle charge in future and the problen should not happen again if the fluid level is right

Three things i have learnt with new batteries.
1/ transport upright and secured, to prevent spillage.
2/ check the electrolyte level before charging, and the specific gravity if you have a tester.
3/ observe the charge , ensure the charger is performing correctly. Don't leave the charger unattended if practical, they can malfunction, and boil the battery.
