I have a Mardon Saffron 92. Does anyone know how to convert the rear bed into a double. It shoulg make a double as I have a double and a single seat, unlike the elddis that has 2 single seats. I have been using the bunks, but when I am caravaning at easter I think the children will be warmer if they sleep together.

Hi

Just because you have a double & a single seat it does not mean that you will have a double bed.

Unless the single seat extends out some how, it means that you will have a single bed that is wide at one end & narrow at the other

Graham is right.

Our Geist has a triple seating arrangement at the back (double seat at one side of the large table and single at the other) but it only makes into a single bed albeit almost double width in part.

Would it be possible to provide a hinged flap with hinged leg to the side of the single seat and then with infill ply and extra cushions make up a double? Alternatively fix a runner to the side of the single seat similar to the cantilever shelf bracket and have a detachable support that has a leg and slides into the runner, then using the infill ply sheet and cushions make up a double. The inside of the side panel may need strengthening to take the extra load. Without seeing the van layout I would have thought it would be a simple week end task for a competant DIY person.

Thanks Colin,

We can quite easily fix a runner to the side of the single seat and use a sheet of ply. Weight shouldn't be a problem as I can sleep the smallest child that side. A project for this weekend before we go away at Easter!

The bracket I had in mind would be a cross sectional shape of a deformed figure 6 - the top is horizontal approx. 1in. in length, the rear is vertical approx 2ins. in length, another horizontal piece is spprox. 3/4in. down from the top and then an angled member is used to strengthen the lower horizontal to the bottom of the vertical. It is generally used for fixing flush melamime shelving. It is all covered with a good quality paint finish of various colours and can be cut to length. It is available at all good DIY shops such as B&Q.
