Bedding sealant HELP?

Hi there

Helping a mate to re-seal his Bailey Caravan. We purchased Mastic

to do the job but have been told this is incorrect and no way shoud we use it on the caravan. So we are asking what should we use. I know its got to be none hardening from what we have read.

What do Baileys Use when they make the caravans at there factory.

Try Ebay for "caravan sealants". I put "Mastic in Caravans" in google and it turned a few thing up. Hope thats useful

I must admit we hoped someone on the forum would know this one.

We looked in the Hayes Manual ( John Wickersham )but its not clear.I Was hoping that Bailey Person could come back with the answer. We do not wish to use the incorrect mastic or we will have to do the job all over again.

Stephen, the best to use are IDL99, or Soudall, or Sikalflex 512.

Be aware that when Sikaflex sets it sets really well, so ideal for awning rails, especially on the side which takes the awning.

Normal silicone mastic can attack aluminium and is very easy to break the seal.

IDL99 is a non setting mastic, so flexes with amy movement.

The key to getting it right is meticulous preparation, make sure all the old sealant is removed and clean well with white spirit before applying new mastic, or you will be wasting your time.

Many thanks for you help. This is the help needed we would have made another error. We woud not have used SIKAFLEX for the awning rail side. My mates and I are doing up a old Bailey Caravan we have cut out all the old damp stripped the van right out back to the shell.We have done reseach all through the winter books, mags,and have got most of all the info needed to do the jobs.Plus each of us has the skill base to carry out the work Ie fitter, carpenter. Gas fitter,Eleck fitter, this mastic area is the only area holding us up.

IDL 99 is sold by Hallfords and is stocked in larger branches aswell as many caravan stores.
