hi, We are thinking of staying at this site for a long weekend with our two pre school age children. This will be our first ever attempt at touring (eek!) Anyone been there? Would you recommend it? Anyone got any other suggestions for family friendly/good for newbies/easy to get to from the North east sites?

Thank u

We have been to this site. Very easy to get to. On the outskirts of York. There is a park and ride nearby which will take you into york. Site is lovely and clean and well set out. There is a playground for the kids, a field for football and a dog walking field. We went last august and have booked again for august this year. There is a good pub a short drive away that does great steaks, I think it was called AGAR arms, they have a book of pubs on site, we'd recommend this one.

Thanks for that IanMc! York it is! (never mind the playground, it was the steaks that sold it! haha) Wish us luck...

I'd echo these comments - excellent site. We were there a couple of weeks ago.

There's also an excellent fish and chip restaurant and take away about 5 mins down the road (A64 towards Scarborough).

Fully agree with what has been said, excellent site, easy access and close to York. Whilst Rowentree Park is closer to York personally I would say that Beechwood Grange is the better of the 2 sites

Like you we have just started caravaning and beachwood was our first trip away about two weeks ago and it was easy to get to just off the ring road. Park and rides which ever direction you go to york, the park itself has good facilitys there is a new park for the kids the shower block is clean its al you can ask for. Go for it

Totally agree with all the comments. We stayed here November last year. Lovely site and very easy to get to as novices! My 3year old loved the toddler bathroom- thought it was her own especially the small bath! Small things that please them!!! Worth mentionning the wardens are lovely, very friendly and award winning.

Hi

Agree with what has been said already. Before we relocated last year Beechwood Grange was a site we visited several times a year for weekends, including our first trip out of the season. Lovely site, easy to get to.Tip try to avoid arriving at rush hour as ring road can get busy on Fridays.

The site is flat with good size pitches. Park and ride is just down the road, next to an an out of town shopping complex with supermarket and shops. There is also a caravan dealer with accessories shop, Barrons now Discover, a bit further up on the A64, useful if you need anything.

Recommend using park and ride, parking in the centre of York is expensive. Railway museam at York is worth a visit. Our kids also enjoyed going on the open top double deckers buses sight seeing around York.

Wardens very helpful.

Hi Angel, i note you asked for some easy to get to sites from the north-east, from your friend in the north-east (!!) i would suggest C&CC site at Keswick. We've been there a few times in the past 4 years and our kids love it! It's on the shores of Derwent Water, which is very shallow and ideal for kids to paddle in.

Within walking distance of the centre of Keswick, which has a supermarket, family friendly pubs, for the kids there's the Pencil Museum and a Car Museum, which they'll enjoy. There's loads of lovely villages in the surrounding area too.

The site itself does tend to get booked up quite quickly during peak periods, but i would recommend booking a hardstanding pitch, as it does get quite boggy when it rains.

Usually takes us a couple of hours, easy to get to, A1, A66 and you're there. Another one is CC site at Troutbeck Head, just off the A66. Lovely site and facilities, but about 9 miles from Keswick, so if you want to go anywhere you'll have to drive.

Hope this helps!!

Thanks Anette for the nearby Accessory shop details. Feel we may end up paying them a visit.. (altho hope not as I now have a checklist of stuff to take!)

Thanks to you too Lara, fellow North Eastener! Great minds obviously think alike, as I've just booked us a week at Troutbeck Head for August! Will look into other Keswick site too, sounds fantastic.
