Hello everyone. I've been motorhoming in Oz and using a compact coachbuilt with overcab bed, usually based on the Toyota Hilux chassis, like this -

A similar popular one is this - http://www.suncampermotorhomes.com.au/motorhomes/sherwood/

Is there a close equivalent now in the UK?

We have always been keenest on the U-shape lounge setup but in the bigger vans we've had in the past, if you wanted to use the overcab bed it has become a bit of a climb as we age. But with these, the overcab bed is only about hip height above the floor and you get into it a bit like swivelling rather than climbing. Coming back to the UK, we'd like to be able to find something very similar.

Cheers, Bill

Hi Bill,

Welcome to the Practical Motorhome forum and thanks for posting. I am sure someone will be able to give you a much more informative reply than I can, but I would like to point you in the direction of our reviews – please click here. We've also pulled all our video reviews into one place, so if you want to watch them, please click here. Our reviews are of 'vans sold in/available in the UK, therefore they might help you get a feel for the British market.

I hope that helps!

Bill,
Do you mean like This :
http://www.apollomotorhomes.com/ ??

Yes we have them, but they are a tad expensive, compared to traditional vans and the living space offered, and not as popular. Ray

Ray - I think Bill meant a coachbuilt rather than a dismountable. There were some around in the 1970's but I can't recall any with the rear lounge layout. The common chassis at that time was also the Toyota HiLux & IIRC there was one on the Ford Cortina. I think for the body style choice may be restricted to the specialist converters of All-Terrain Vehicles now.
