The problem is it could be any number of things, best information I can give is to tell you the current manufactures of the Malaga and that is Propex

Hi,

I don't know about your particular heater, but on mine (Truma) if the cover is on the heater flue then it behaves exactly as you describe. Remove the cover and it works fine.

Paul, there is a bigger problem, in the actual model of Malaga heater.

The most up to date version is the Malaga 3 and 3E.

Under normal operation when you switch to gas operation on the control panel, there will be a 10second delay as the system self checks. Ignition will then take place and the Red light WILL STAY ONas long as the burner is alight.

If it does not light first time, it wil shut down for 60 seconds before trying again automatically.

When the heater reaches its pre set temp, the red light will GO OFF until the water cools and the heater will automatically start again, and the red light will illuminate.

If the light flashes it indicates a fault.

Anyway, here is a list of things to check:

Before undertaking any of the checks below, check the Gas pressure is adequate, a god 12v supply and 230v supply for the Malaga E, and that there is a good flow of water from the Hot taps.

If the L.E.D does not light up, and the heater is not working, check the red button in the middle of the overheat thermostat, and 1amp antis surge fuse on the circuit board.

If the L.E.D comes on butthe hetaer does not work, after 10 seconds you shoul dbe able to hear the gas solenoid open (a clunk)and the ignitor start sparking.

If you do not hear the valve open, waitfor the 2 ignition cycles to complete and coun the number of times the Red L.E.D flashes.

If it flashes 2,3,4 or 5 timesthis indicates a fault on the PCB.

If 6 flashes are observed, disconnect the valve from the PCB and apply 12v to the valve to check that it is working(a clunk), if it dosent it needs replacing.

If there is no spark, it will either be a PCB fault or a faulty HT lead between the ignitor and ignition electrode.

If the solenoid vave is working, and there is a spark, then it is a gas pressure problem (possible blocked regulator?)or blocked jet or damaged pipework.

If the heater lights but goes out after 5 seconds(which will also give a 6 flash code)then the signal from the flame recognition probe is not being received by the electronics.

Check that the left hand PCB mounting screw is tight against the tank.

Check the HT lead for broken terminals and that the lead is not damaged along its length.

It could also be that the flame probe is not fully in the flame, the flue terminal is incorrectly fitted or there is a fault on the PCB

Hope this helps
