Benifits when you reach 60

Hello every-one, Now that to-day I'm officially old (60) what benifits do I get from the NHS, DHS etc. I have had a quick look on the internet and see that I get free prescriptions, eye tests and a bus pass. I thought well I may aswell apply for the bus pass while I'm on the P.C. so pulled up the site for the county council and read through the application form and guess what I can't have one untill 2014. They are getting 2 years discount out of me I think

, rob dogs. Do you have to apply for a certificate for your prescriptions do any of you know, and even for your free eye test, or even do you get any financial help with your dentists fees. I don't know 'coz I haven't been 60 before

Prescriptions happens automatically. Just tick the correct box. With specs you need to complete a form, but can only get it done once a year. Similar applies to a NHS dentist.

Just watch one thing. If you are rich and have savings and assets above £23,500 make sure you transfer them in a trust to your kids now. If you fall ill before 7 years of maiking such a Trust the Government will charge you for ALL care home and nursing home treatment you need.
Ironically this ridiculous , "make the aged pay" rule totally discourages anyone from saving for their old age!!
The key is careful financial planning to protect your assets.

You can expect a DIY bowel cancer testing kit for your birthday, courtesy of NHS,bit like an advent calendar but on this one you hav eto close the windows.

You get lots of discounts. TRy cineworld. Most golf clubs also give a discount. If you are given the discount without asking you should be offended. You will know when you should get your bus pass, it is when teenagers stand up and give you their seat on the bus you have had to pay on.

hi all,
benifits you get at 60 eh well it like this,
1. the free prescriptions, but being diabetic there were free anyway.
2. a bus pass, but it taks 2years after appling before you get one and if you travel before 9.30am you pay full price anyway.
3. free eye tests, same as 1. but you still pay full price for glasses if needed,
4. cheap breaks on some sites, but these are available for the over 50's so you could have got these allready.
5. find over night your car insurance has doubled.
6. once a year you get a cheque from the DWP for a winter fuel payment.
7. find all of a sudden you mailbox full of junk mail offering life insurance, glasses hearing aids ect.
and 8. find out you have to wait another 5 years to get any OAP discounts.
plus every morning you get up and something doesn't work that worked perfectly well the day before, and instead of doing things for the kids it becomes increasingly obvious that now it is the other way round.

I still believe the for most people, life starts at 50, and 60 is 10 years senior to that which should be just fine. I actually am thinking of that lifestyle when I would eke out whatever I can and actually stop at 50 just to give me enough time to enjoy and go back to the roots. Would be more interesting with everything to go with me just right, don't you think?

Did you know we old folk are worth a fortune?.We have Silver in our hair,Gold in our teeth,Stones in our kidney's,Lead in our feet and Gas in our stomaches.
I have become older since I last saw you,and a few changes have come into my life.Frankly ,I have become a frivolous old woman!!!
Iam, seeing six gentleman every day! As soon as I wake up Will Power helps me out of bed,then I go to see Jimmy Riddle,and then it is time for my breakfast with Mr Kellogg ,followed by the refreshing company of Mr Tetley or my other friend who I know only by his initials - PG.
Then comes someone I don't realy like at all-- Arthur Itis -- he knows he is not welcome but he insists on being here,and whats more ,he stays for the rest of the day.Even then he does not like to stay in one place,so he takes me from joint to joint. After such a hectic day Ia, glad to go to bed (and with Johnny Walker too),what a hectic life.Oh yes ,Iam now flirting with Al Zheimer!
The vicar came to call the other day and said that at my age I should be thinking of the hereafter.So I told him I did all the time.For no matter where I am,the bedroom,the sitting room or the garden ,I ask myself "Now what you here after"?.Well I will close now and hope that Will Power is your constant companion too,but do make sure that his best friend Emma Royd does not creep up on you from behind!!! And watch out for the crafty one -- Gerry Atric!
