Lake District - if you want to be in the centre for Lake Windermere try CC Braithwaite Fold - well used site with all amenities but not a lot on site for children.

South Lakes try CC Meathop Fell nr. Grange over Sands. good quiet site in the lee of Morecambe Bay - open all year with all amenities.

North Lakes - CC Troutbeck about 8 mls. from Keswick grand place with all amenities.

Neil,

I`ve posted this reply a few times, I live in South Cumbria. Millom to be exact, we are in easy reach of the lakes but without the tourist expense. The local RUFC ground has a C&CC cs site, it has open views of the fells, and is really safe for the kids to play on, the entrance opens out to the sand dunes which in turn lead to one of the safest beaches in the land. the local childrens play area is a couple of hundred yards away and the Harbour Hotel is 200yds further on (good food sensibly priced) you`ll find the natives very friendly.

Windermeer is about 40min drive, Coniston water about the same. the western lakes Enerdale water, Buttermeer, Crummock water and Lowes water are about thirty miles away but the roads are quiet enough as most of the tourists tend to go to the northern lakes around Keswick. But for a quiet relaxing time which is child freindly come to the South lakes you`ll love it.

By the way I don`t get paid for this advert I just want to share a beautiful place.

Come and have a look you won`t regret it.

So it looks like we'll have to decide between Troutbeck and Meathrop Fell for the lakes and we're still undecided over where to go on North Devon coast or down into Cornwall...any more ideas ?

Hi Neil

We went to N.Devon in the summer and stayed at Tarka Holiday park just outside of Barnstaple. Good site, friendly with good facilities (toilets clean, play area for the kids, dog exercise area, restaurant/bar on site)and not far from coast just a short drive. We found it a good base to explore the area. have a look here - http://www.tarkaholidaypark.co.uk/

We are now at the planning stage for a holiday in South Devon,in an area which we knew nothing about.Called the South Hams, have now got loads of info.off the web,and some tourist brochures and it looks wonderful.Plenty to do and the choice of really good beaches or a trip into Dartmoor.Have a look and see what you think.

The Hams are exremely attractive. Theer are good sites at California Cross (C&CC) and (CC). However, be careful regarding the roads. They are very narrow and have very high steep banks at the sides, towing can be fraught if you miss the correct roads. It is bad enough with a car, and the locals will not give you an inch (Or at least all the ones I met in 2 trips didn't). Use the 'aperk and ride' at Dartmouth, it isn't worth the hassle trying to park in town. Totnes was our favourite tho'.

Have fun, but watch out for the parking fees.

Still looking for something sea sidey in Devon / Cornwall, preferably a Caravan Club site
