Best route Barmouth to Essex

Doing this on Sunday. My concern is mainly about the A487/A458 regarding towing caravan. Looks like a twisty one.

Need I worry?

Regards

Hello Scouse Ian,

Try entering your request on the following site....

www.viamichelin.co.uk

It allows you to find a route suitable for towing a caravan, in the 'more options' section. It informs you of any potential hazards and calculates the time and distance. You can also input different routs if needed.

Best regards,

From your fellow scouser, but now Bedford George.

I have just taken advantage, for the first time, the Route Planner, available to all members of the Caravan Club. I am surprised how comprehensive this is, and it is extremely helpful and geared up for towing. Have a look on the Club site and see what you think:

The 458 is more "up and over" than twisty. There's a mountain pass to go up/down which is very steep in parts and quite a sharp bend on the way down. If your heading off towards Welshpool at Mallwyd, there's a very tight bend over a bridge to watch for; it's fine towing, just approach slowly and hope there's no coaches coming the other way... Then there's quite a 'persistant' corner approaching Llanfair Caereinion; it seems to go on forever.

When I travel to/from Barmouth, I tend to go via Bala/A5, which avoids the mountains and is a little straighter, but nowhere near as pretty.
