I would say Penrith and then the A66 to Scotch Corner. Then up the A1 and back onto the A66 to Stockton. The A19 South to the A174 and then A171 passed Whitby to Scarborough. Most sites except the C&CC one will need you to drive through Scarborough which can be very busy but is well sign posted. The alternative is longer down the A1 to the A61 but you cannot use Sutton Bank and have to follow a narrow badly sign posted route round it. Under no circumstances ignore the signs and use Sutton bank.
Good luck with either route as neither is ideal.

Unfortunately you can't use the A170 in either direction around
Sutton Bank

Google is showing all A roads
You can use either of the two routes shown A66 or A66 and A64 but not the A66 and A170 due to caravans not being allowed up Sutton bank.

Thanks Sproket, I think then that the caravan version TomTom only deals in road width and not gradient. You can plan routes specifying roads to avoid though.

Don't even think about Sutton Bank, caravans are banned, the easiest route is A66 A1 A64, a bit further but mostly dual carriage,
Alan
