Hi,

What's the fastest and easiest way to get to Estartit from Calis?

Should we go all the way on the E15 or the semi toll E11 route?

We're not to bothered about the cost of the toll road but the toll road seems to go out of the way to the east and back again.

Regards

Pete

Thanks Mike,

Although the site you mentioned does seem the best route planner I've seen. It still takes the shortest route.

I've been to Spain on the E11 before and it takes you through some small towns and through a massive mountain range. I was wondering if the longer route on the E15 is faster although it does take you a little out of the way.

Thanks

Pete

Pete...have you looked at the summary and route plan type, you have a chocie of 5 routes, fastest, shortest, recommended, avoiding tolls, and prefering motorways. I myself am going to Torreleo de Montgri and have planned my route with this, first I thought the shortest which took me along the A20 via Tours and Limoges but having looked its I'm going on the A75 (E11). The route its probably given you is avoiding Paris. Have a look at, from Calais,

A26 and A1 toward Paris, then you hardest part will be Paris itself, I've done this no problem but you need to be alert and stay under the signs your heading for, you will need Bordeaux and the A10, follow that and at Orleans go on the A71. You should now be on the E11 although I never bother with the E parts I follow the French motorway numbers. You will need the A71 towards Clermont Farrand, it then becomes the A75. You will cross the new Millau viaduct and shortly after might have a bit of normal road but then you go on the A9 and on into Spain. Check this route out, I've tried a couple of sites and they all recommend this as the quickest, but no the shortest. Its 95% motorway maybe more. I could have saved myself typing this as I've just checked and via michelin give this as the quickest route. Hope this helps

Mike

Hi Pete,

We travelled to Estartit a couple of years ago and took the route Calais, Lyon, Orange, Montpelier (E15) & into Spain. It was Autoroute all the way, is 840 miles and took 18.5 hours including breaks (not including overnight stop). I would be interested to hear how long it takes on your planned route. Have a nice holiday it's a great area.

Hi Mac,

Why did you choose the E15 route instead of the more direct route on the E11 through Clemont Franz?

I can't help thinking you took the faster route, even though all the route planners say the E11 is faster. What do you know that the computers don't?

Hi Pete,

I'm afraid it's not very scientific - I've got a big twin axle that tows much better and faster on motorways than smaller roads. Experience has shown that I'm often quicker taking the long way round on a motorway and I also find it much easier driving - although it can get a little boring. The E15 is a very good road with plenty service areas. My time was actually 16.5 hrs not 18.5 as previously stated. We took an early morning ferry to Calais and stopped overnight at a municipal site near Macon. The next day we arrived at the campsite near Estartit around 4pm.

we have driven this route for the past three years and will be doing it again this July.

My sat nav takes us down the autoroute de nord then the auto route de soleille turn right at orange and along the coast on the motorway into spain thats the fastest.
