You are going to need something quite heavy like a 4x4. You dont say what your budget is so its difficult to answer your question. But Shoguns, Discoveries, Range Rover, Defender and Land Cruisers will all deal with a large heavy van without any fuss. Prices start at £2k and go to £70k plus! A first generation Sorento will tow well over 1900kg and will have sufficient kerbweight and is a well respected tug. I had one for seven years without anyhing going wrong. My XC70 will tow 1900kg but I am not sure that I would be comfortable doing so as it is getting towards a 100% ratio for kerbweight and MTPLM. And E-class etc.

A good well preserved classic Range Rover V8 on LPG will do everything you need, and need not cost a mortgage to buy.
