bike racks

In general would you say that the easiest way to transport four bikes whilst towing is to fix them on a bike rack on the top of the car? What other options are safe and what are the easiest methods eg will you need steps to mount bikes on car and use steps to strap and take off. Cheers Mike

The most economical way, as regards fuel consumption, is to carry them in the van or on the back of the car.

I carry mine on the roof leaving me with access to the boot and not cluttering the van when we stop for a break.

With a saloon you don't need a step but I tow with an X-Trail and carry an additional caravan step so my wife and I can lift them down.
