Anyone suckered in by the supposedly good deals at a lower price as interestingly it seems many items were at a lower price earlier in the year? The prices then increased about 6 weeks prior to Black Friday?

Nope.

I made a post elsewhere about a Smartphone I was looking at for a friend. Its more expensive now than it was before the Black Friday or Black Week or Black Month - whatever.

Nope, same every year, like you say @Buckman put the price up prior to the event then knock the price down but still remain higher than the price earlier in the year.

Like most things in life, you do need to do your research.
Some items are clearly heavily reduced. I have my eye on getting a smaller drone than my current one. A few sites have it on at a lower price, but not hugely lower as I think the manufacturer has a strangle hold on retailers it supplies.

Something is only a "bargain" if you wanted it prior to it being in any sort of sale! folk get lured into purchasing "sale" stuff just be cause they think it is cheap!

Not suckered.... I always renew my Microsoft 365 subscription on Black Friday through Amazon. This year, I paid £116 for a 27 month renewal as opposed to regular price, £80 for 12 months. Caveat emptor!

I guess then that I'm only saving £52/year by using Libre Office which is free!

I forgot about my 365 subscription and the first I knew of it renewing was when it had already happened however I never bought it on Black Friday or through Amazon.

I do have a Macintosh, but not sure what that has to do with MS 365?
Well you said you were looking for an alternative to MS365, which was in your reply Roger’s post wrt Libre Office which is free and mirrors MS365 in many facets. So I was just trying to be helpful in pointing out that Libre Office is available via the Apple App Store.

We have bought a couple of things in the sale but checked to see if the discounts were genuine first.

You can get a Web Based version of MS 365 for free but it uses the ubiquitous cloud for everything.

Or you can get old versions of Office 2019 or 2021 which are subscription free, lifetime licenses, on places like Amazon or eBay. Around £20 or £30.

I had a subscription to MS365 for a couple of years after deciding that my copy of 2007 was past its use by date. However I got fed up with them messing around changing or adding things I never wanted, plus constantly paying year after year. So I ditched that and bought a copy of Office 2019 which at the time wasn't much, if any, different.

Libre Office is OK but if you've got plenty of experience with MS Office its a little hard to switch.

Google also have their Workspace which has things like Docs and Sheets and Slides and so on. Also Web based.

However I never bought my Macintosh on a rainy Black Friday afternoon. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Apologies for the wind up, but big Macs went out years ago.

My wife buys half price leg of lamb from Sainsburys and there are normally two that are kept in our daughters freezer. They are sequentially used when the family come around for a roast lunch.

You should have bought the lamb shanks when we were in Snaignton. Last Barnsley lamb chops gone last week.

We looked at them at our local Tesco and decided that they were too fatty so gave them a miss. However Sainsburys have leg of lamb on a supposed special if you have a Nectar card.
