Block Exemption

12 months ago I purchased a new Freelander 2.

This is now due for service and I have been quoted £374 by my main Landrover dealer but only £175 by a local independant workshop using Land rover parts.

As there are currently no warranty issues at present I am strongly tempted to use the independant for what after all is only an oil and filter change.

Does any other reader have any previous experience of the block exemption consumer rules in respect of vehicle servicing?

We are having our S-max serviced by a local independant having double checked with the dealer that this is ok as the nearest Ford dealer is 30 miles away and they do not open early enough for us to drop it off on the way to work, for us to make a special journey, taking a day off work would effectively add

paul, We have Lex auto lease cars at work and they nominate Auto Centre for the servicing. It does not affect the warranty and warranty repairs are carried out by franchised dealers.

As long as you use a VAT registered garage you will be ok with your warranty.

From experience everyone my cars (personal and also the fleet cars I run at work) have gone into main dealers for servicing and there has nearly always been a software update or small recall work that needs to be done (free of charge under warrenty), on the flip side local VAT registered garages are cheaper, but will your car get any updates / recalls etc done that manufacturers inform dealers to do with the routine servicing?

Whilst I had my Freelander 2, it had some form of softare update done everytime it went into the dealership.
