blow air heating

could anyone tell me please is this system only in new caravans or is there any older caravans that have it and is it the carver heater or has it the vents around the van? as weve been around looking for a used caravan people are advertising one thing then ending up not having it!

thanks

mine is a 1990 and it has blow heating with the vents which allow hot air to blow around your caravan from your heater hope this helps a bit

Blown air has been around, in different forms, for "ever".

The type used on current caravans is the Truma type with a 12v fan and distribution unit on the back of the heater ducted to outlets around the caravan.

This type was also fitted to some Carver heaters, both new and retro-fit, as the Carver was a licence-built Truma.

Some older Carvers could have a fan unit attached to the front of the heater but this had no distribution system.

Our Sterling Europa (1996) has got blow air heating - even an outlet in the shower room! It works on gas (though I've never tried it) or electric - gets the caravan very cosy!

Hi

Some only have gas as the source of heat others have both.

If you are on electric hookup and paying, then use electric for obvious reasons.

Hello Karen,

All Carver heaters that used the Carver installation box could have some form of blown air heating fitted.

It was an optional addition, which became increasingly popular towards the 1990's and beyond, when it became almost standard equipment in most caravans.

Blown air systems could be retro fitted on most heaters where the Carver installation box had been used. The box had a pre-perforated location for the fan mounting.

Some makes of caravans (most notably ABI) did not use the Carver installation box on the SB1800 models and so blown air in these was not possible.

There was a version of the Caravelle heater that had front mounted fan. This system could not be added to any of the other models.

The 1800 size of heaters was only suitable for small fan systems (Minor/Junior systems) Where as, the much larger 3000 and 5000 series needed the full size fan kits.

From the early 1990's, the Fanmaster system was introduced that incorporated electrically heated elements. This allowed the caravan to be heated by gas or electricity where the supply allowed it. Again these systems could be retrofitted.

Towards the end of the 1990's, a new range of carver heater were introduced that had the electric heating and fan systems built into the basic heater. These later systems could not be added later unless the whole heater was changed.

We never use the blown air switch on the heater in our 1999 Sterling Europa (end washroom) - by the time the "warm" air has reached the washroom along the pipes, it's cooled right down. Better to leave the washroom door open for a while, to let it warm up, then rely on the warmth of the hot water to heat the room.
