Out of interest, which one is the better one and why do you think it is better. Surely both have similar capabilities and accessories? Are the hitchlocks perhaps cheaper than the A|LKO ones etc?

There's nothing much to choose between the two. It's more a matter of which chassis manufacturer is successful in securing the bid to supply the caravan manufacturer. Obviously, with AlKo having a larger share of the market, the selection of available accessory items for AlKo chassis is larger. For example, the ATC system won't fit on a BPW chassis and one would have to choose the BPW equivalent or another make of electronic stabiliser.

Our first van had an Alko chassis and our next (and current) van has a BPW chassis, and hence a Winterhoff stabiliser. We are told, dunno if it is true, that a winterhoff stabiliser is less likey to make you think you are correctly hitched when you are not. It does seem harder to unhitch than the Alko stabiliser. We do have the ATC equivalent its called ID something. We chose the van on the basis of layout not chassis.

I think Mel is probably right,

Does anyone claim they chose a caravan on the basis of the chassis used over the layout of the saloon?

I seem to recall an item in an older PC magazine where the author changed the ALCO hitch for a BPW one.

(or was it some other magazine?)
We have a BPW and its a ****** to get off the ball IF you don’t pull forward after a reverse manoeuvre.
