My caravan was put in for service whilst I was away with it for a weekend, they found that "one" of the brake shoes have worn down nearly to the metal the only time Ive seen this before is if the shoe hasnt been seated right or the bonding agent has failed between the metal and shoe materiel. Anyway they didnt have any shoes in stock does anyone know what brakes shoes Elddis use i.e. ford, rover etc obviously if I use caravan shoe itll be dlearer and I wouldnt for one minute think that they would have brake shoes manufactured specifically for them, and because of where I live I could get them easier from a factor, failing that when I take them off Ill see ifI can match them up with the sillouettes the motor facters used to keep.

Your chassis and therefore your hubs will be either Knott or Al-Ko.
Whichever it is you must fit the correct shoes.
To find which shoes you require you need the axle number from the data plate attached to the axle. or measure the diameter of the brakes and the width of the shoes, which if One Shot Nuts are fitted means replacing them as well as they MUST NOT be reused.

Assuming they are 2051 size, they are £51.95 for the axle set, ie two sets to replace a complete axle set.
They come complete with new springs, spring retainers, one shot nuts and dust caps.
The only other thing you need is a torque wrench capable of 290 nm to do the nuts up .

As its a 2009 caravan surely its under warranty and was certainly supplied in a condition unfit for purpose.
Is it not the dealer who should be sorting it out; presuming they are still trading?
I have had vans that I kept for years, one doing about 34,000 miles and the shoes of that and the others never wore to a point needing replacement. Something must be very wrong with your van.

With your latest posting, having previously stated that you have an Al-KO chassis, it shows that unless you know exactly what you are doing, leave it to the engineers who do.
The information and torque figures I gave you in my previous post are now completely useless.
Different brake, different torque setting, different hub nuts.

I made the mistake of assuming an Alko hitch meant an Alco chassis, it was too wet to check, it is a BPW, knott hub.I think I should manage it,I was a mechanic and a MOT examiner (famous last words)

Thanks again

Just an update if any ones interested, replaced the shoes turned out that although the van is just now two years old on one side the expander had been fitted the wrong way round meaning the braking on that side was ineffective the equaliser bar had been adjusted so it wasnt at right angles to the main bar, whether that had been to compensate for the lack of and extensive wear of friction materiel on the other side side I dont know anyway the result has been an overheated hub with a very smelly bearing which I also replaced, I never thought to check for heat as I used to because the van was so new, 20 minutes per side for brakes plus extra 30 mins to knock out the bearing put drum in the oven gas mark 6 bearing in freezer, bearing drops straight in without having to use a press or hammer and old socket, new one shot nuts, despite being told by several workshops( thats a worry) that they can be reused with threadlock, for peace of mind.BPW supply a handbook and its also online which is very good detailing the brake parts and system, remember that you need a very large torque wrench for the nuts 330 nm or approx 294 lbs

Just for clarification and to stop any unintended sharp retorts to Steve's posting, he was NOT referring to Derek the Second.
He was referring to a spam advertising posting which appeared on the site.

The posting has been removed along with the originator.

I would hope that the caravan had been built and checked by "engineers" that knew what they were doing

"The word vintage, used to describe dresses and clothing, is a broad term that is generally used to refer to clothing that originates from a past era. In general, clothing that dates earlier than the 1920s, is considered to be antique. Whereas clothing and dresses that have emerged after the 1920s, up to the 1980s and 90s, is considered to be vintage. Retro, or vintage style, usually refers to clothing that is an imitation of the style of a previous era.
A range of vintage style clothing that is hugely popular today, are the fifties dresses. The enduring popularity of these dresses, might be because that was the time women's clothing made significant strides, as it was after the second World War and many restrictions had been lifted and designers had more freedom and materials available to create beautiful women's fashion ranges.
Some of the popular dress styles that have enjoyed a timeless appeal have included the Ophelia dress, floral tea dresses, Audrey Hepburn style dresses, the figure hugging Lindy Bop dresses and dresses made famous by Grace Kelly and many classic Hollywood stars. Even today, young women are choosing vintage style dresses for their special occasions such as a ball, prom night, and other formal parties, because they have a definite charm and elegance and have been designed to enhance a woman's shape and beauty."

"One of the most popular, but simple fifties dresses, is the petticoat. This was designed to be flattering to a lady's shape and also, to enhance the dress she was wearing over it. Petticoats made of silk and woollen materials were initially introduced for women to wear under the main dress, as they provided warmth and would enhance women's busts. The classic petticoat then became shorter and lacy petticoats became the fashion, as they delicately accentuated the dresses that were worn over them, such as the Ophelia dress.
Vintage style dresses UK are available in a wide variety of sizes from vintage clothing shops, textile fairs, auctions, flea markets, estate sales, antique markets, garage sales and collectable fairs. However, there is always the risk with buying genuine vintage clothing, that the sizes may not match current clothing sizes. But there are a number of special boutiques online, who specialise in designing and creating vintage clothing to order. They can take your specific measurements and produce an outfit that will be tailor made and fit you perfectly"
