We are thinking of buying a Kampa Easy Tread carpet which says it's breathable but it feels as though it is a plastic material. Has anyone come across this and can say whether it is breathable and will not kill the grass after two to three weeks use.

Any groundsheet will kill the grass after two to three weeks use - it needs to see the light and get a bit of air occaisionaly. Caravan Club sites want the groundsheet to be lifted frequently to stop this happening although most people don't. The number of pitches we've had to endure where there is a big yellow bald patch where someone has had an awning/groundsheet for the best part of a fortnight and not thought of the consequences of not lifting the sheet.

We have a Kampa breathable awning carpet quite pleased with it, yes it is a woven type of plastic and can be a little slippy if you are in your stocking feet or if a mat/rug is placed on top. We did get a few mud patches this year but how many did not, at home hung out over clothes line and hosed down, left to dry and packed in its own bag ready for next time. Oh I forgot to say had no bugs crawling through and grass looked OK afterwards apart from late August when we had the heavy rain and the mud. Think it was only 40 something quid from United British Caravans and 5.5 metres long

Many thanks for your reply Terry, just what I wanted to hear. Not too sure about the slippy bit, I hope that will be OK for the grandchildren, we have always used the old rubbery breathable carpets before but they are heavier and hard to keep clean, Thought we would look into the new ones out now. Just to let Dave know we "are" very concerned about the grass ( hence the enquiry) I have had my old rubbery carpet down for eighteen consecutive days and the grass was only flattened and very slightly faded.
