Just edging my bets not all read chit chat.

12 Jul 2006 06:53 PM

Hi all

Just borrowed a computer to jump on.

Can anyone just help. Maybe not personlally, but does anyone know a solicitor, or knowleg=dge themselves.

Getting our house was traumatic. The echange of contract happened the date set Monday 26th June vacant possession.

We get a call our monies received and the keys released its now our house!!!

Or is it?

The people hadn't done any packing, 4pm came and they were still there, not packed and at their end things had gone wrong.

Two days later they were still there packing to move.

My question I've been told by a solicitor, its was unfortunate.

there's nothing that can be done...

Was it my house or not? they had excepted the money and released keys.

How long were we supposed to wait to get in our house?????

I know I'm rambling, but I think we should be eligable for compensation 1. them in our house for two days. 2 the absolute emotional strain on us..

Hope someone reads this, I just want to know the right words to use when I try and fight my case.

Thanks guys for listening.

Smiley,

What an infuriating thing to happen!!

Surely the vendors were aware that they had to vacate YOUR property upon completion, if they were'nt then somebody is responsible, and for your solicitor to say "it's just one of those things" is ludicrous.

I would definately expect compensation of some sort, they were living in your property. What about storage of your belongings, and who foots the bill for your accomodation for those extra days. Don't let them get away with it!!!!

I would say that you paid a solicitor to sort out the move.

Sort it out with them, or what the heck did you pay them for !

Sorry it's not nice to experience it, work out how much it will cost to speak to a legal eagle and how much you might get back and then if you are lucky, when!

Sorry Smiley, but life is tough at times. From past experiences oursleves and through family and friends who have moved a lot of times I expect to see the flying pig over your home the day you get compensation.

I would like to think I'm wrong, but sadly I doubt it.

When we have moved house the solicitor has always put a clause in the contract about penalties that will have to be paid in an event such as you describe. Have you double checked the small print of the contracts? Our solicitor always gave me the impression this was standard practice. I would double check your copy of the contract.

Good luck, moving house is stressfull enough without that kind of hassel.
