Brick through the window

We went to spain for 2 weeks and came back on the 30th nov to fined some kind sole had put a brick through the front window of our caravan and tried to throw one through one of the side windows but missed and hit the panels and punctured a hole in the side. The van is a Fleetwood Heritage 640 CB, 2003. We are insured by E&L who we contacted and are waiting for them to send a form out for use to put down what damage has been done.

The Question i want to ask is "has anyone got any reports of there outcome, good or bad" as this is our first ever incident and wanted to know what to expect. Many thanks in advance and... Happy Christmas to all on the site.

Doug, sorry but the company you are insured with cannot be commented upon on this forum in any way whatsoever.

This is due to them threatening to take legal action against Haymarket for any adverse comments which may be posted.

All that can be said is,,,,,Good Luck, you may need it.

Hi Damian

One of the major guidelines within the FSA rules is "treating customers fairly".

Any insurer who threatens the way you describe is not worthy of my premium. I'm sticking to the CC.

I assume PC will not be doing an Insurer comparison next year for fear of upsetting someone??

Cheers

I wouldn't worry, I had a claim for storm damage earlier this year, they sent an assessor within a week and approved the work within 2 weeks. No problems at all.

Interesting that, despite the threat of legal action, the magazine still carries a flyer / insert for this company every month - money first I suppose!?

Doug,

Do not accept their 'call back in a week' they place a time limit on you to claim. Call them, ask for the manager and demand a claim form.

Good luck

I can tell you your Insurer L&E are talking absolute rubbish and have now exceeded the FSA guidelines on timescales and treating customers fairly.

Get on the phone tomorrow and demand the matter is dealt with immediately. Why do they want you to ring back next week??

Will they still be there???

Cheers

Whilst I appreciate tha replies have been given with the best intentions I must ask that no postings critisicing this company are made.

I am only too aware that the outcome is awaited with baited breath but given this companies liking for litigation, or the threat of it the only further post should be the outcome.

PLEASE respect request or I may have no option than to delete it all together

Hi Damien

Your threat to delete comments on this particular company should apply to good as well as the bad otherwise somebody could form a wrong impression and consider the 'good only' comments to be a recommendation

The final outcome, Receved a letter on the 27th January from the "Insurance Loss Adjusters", where they confirmed that they had now sent a letter to my repair center saying that they can go ahead with the repair, I also receved a copy that had been sent to the repair center that won the quote for the repair.

Later that day i receved a phone call from the repair center telling me there could be a delay of 6-8 weeks as the parts will take time to receve.

Regarding my Insurance company E and L, they did everything to help me, spoke polite on the phone, keep me informed all the way through, informed my repair center of what was happening, Im very very Happy with the outcome and will stay with E and L Insurance (sorry for the late update i was very ill till now)

Forgive me , but I must play Devil's Advocate here.

You first posted on 6th december 2008. Here we are on 3rd February 2009 and you are telling us you now have the go ahead for repairs. That's two months mate, I'm not sure that's good service.

As for the repairs that's no one's fault but the manufacturer who obviously has a problem with just in time delivery.

Sorry but I realise yours is a Fleetwood but even so Adria are/ were the parent company. Is that the best they can do??????

Cheers

Hi Alan, I think it took a little over six weeks in all and to my mind thats good,(no one works sundays, christmas day, boxing day, new years eve, newyears day.remove them from the equation and it reduces the time to "normal") we had a bump in the jeep and that took a year...

Ive no comparison to go on with the caravan so going by the time it took to get sorted with the jeep its very fast in deed. maybe other people on the forum could let us know how long it takes there insurance company to pay out from start to end, then again it will depend of the type of damage or even stolen or flood damaged, I think all are different times according to the problem.

Regarding the time gap in getting the parts to repair, the Heritage 640 cb is not the same as any Adria in relation to the parts needed for this repair, I also think that after sales of my van and many others is not as good as it could be, someone has a story to tell about every make if you look through the other caravan forums. The people who are repairing my van have to go through a dealership of fleetwood who in turn have to contact "WHO" fleetwood? or Adria? then be told there is a delay in parts and he then in turn tell my repair shop who then passes the time delay onto me.

I have no hope of using the van this year because of fleetwood going into recevership i know its going to be more like late july before it is finished, Just a bad year all round for me... But hay! Im better off than a lot in todays climate and i now have my health back. :)

Doug,

Good to hear you have received the approval. Hope the parts come soon rather than later.

Hi Doug

A great shame but in fairness I don't think any of the other manufacturers would be much better.

Even bits for my Kia arrive within 48 hours. I find it hard to accept British caravan manufacturers are so poor at parts delivery. Very odd. Turnover is turnover and you'd think spare price sales would help their finances.

Glad you're better.

Cheers

Alan
