I've asked for an update on the forum issue. I know that one problem is that we don't want to lose the thousands of valuable and informative posts. I don't think it's possible to migrate the present forum's data into one of the 'off the peg' forums out there.

As a mater of interest on the practical classics forum(No connection) they changed from an outdated forum to the modern one (pdf whatever) and started afresh and it went rather well. No one missed any posts, it was quickly forgotten and the fresh start was quite invigorating.

Other forums get over the small cost involved with modern forum by getting a company to sponsor it, i.e have a banner across the home page with a direct link to their website-a cheap way of advertising I would have thought.
