We have 2 children, a boy & a girl - ages 8 & 6. We want to buy a new caravan with bunks that are going to be wide enough for the next 5 years plus. They all seem to be 2 foot or less - we like the Bailey Ranger. Does anybody have experience of children aged 12/13 in 'narrow' bunks? Or do you know of beds that are wider?

Thanks

We've just had a similar search for our first caravan. We've got 3 boys - 11 year old twins who don't want to sleep together and a 4 year old. We've ordered a Geist Activ AK495 5 berth which has a dinette at the front which converts to a double for us, a 3 seater dinette at the back that makes into a single bed and fixed bunk beds which are 2'4" wide. As you say, all of the UK built vans we looked at had really narrow bunks, some as little as 1' 10" which our older boys would struggle with now let alone in a few years time. The continental manufacturers (Hymer, LMC, Burstner to name a few) seem to have got it right with their bunk widths. We get ours in 2 weeks so I'll let you know how we get on.

Have a look at the Abbey Vogue 540.

We actually have an Abbey Expression 550 (which is a Michael Jordan special edition of the Vogue). This is the 6 berth with the end bunks. The bunks on these are wider than on the Bailey (we looked at the Pageant Bretagne) and our 15 year old daughter easily fits on the bottom bunk. and 11 year old son on the top.

Only thing with the Abbey might be the weight...depending on your towcar. However the build quality of ours is great.

Depending on where you are I think that some other dealers do their own special editions of these.

Bunks actually 2'8" wide - whoops!
