Burstner Polyplastic window problems

just had a letter from Burstner on a safety re call.......apparently the double glazed windows fitted to caravans and motor homes from 1998-2005 are falling apart causing potential hazards to other road users.

Burstner and poly plastic believe that fixing four screws will solve the problem, but ignore the fact that the windows are no longer sealed and will be useless as double glazed units. There is another problem...the internal screen print is falling apart causing debris to form inside the windows, which is impossible to remove........does anyone have some answers...Andrew

Hi Alan.......thankyou for your reply.......have looked at the swift problem, which seems different............Polyplastic who make a lot of windows have a big problem on their hands as the screen print they use has de graded causing the windows to fail...

Hi.........Burstner are difficult to contact, if you go to www.polyplastic-pass.nl. you will find details of the problem...you will need to check around the outer edge of the window for evidence of the screenprint degrading..if so you will have a problem. please let me know if you have the same problem as us as the proposals from Burstner will not fix the problem and as owners we will need to fight this issue...my email is camelvalley@btinternet.com regards Andrew

Andrew, we bought our van 2 years ago, and even then the front window had lost a lot of those white dot things.

Left a message with Bustner, but no reply. Intend to leave work early tomorrow and get hold of them.

Will now check out that site.. cheers.

Hi..........the dots are the screenprint, which unfortunately is part of the laminate between the to two layers of the double glazed window. They are impossible to remove and ultimately cause the window to fail. The more people that get unvolved with this problem the more chance of getting replacement windows.

Andrew, I'm with you on this one. My van is not showing any signs of the screen print deteriorating or the windows delaminating, but I too am unhappy with the proposed "fix" as the implication is that once this is done, there will be no question of replacement windows as and if the screen print all falls into a heap of dust in the centre of the window. Also, I'm told the "fix" for my van is scheduled for "late summer 2009" which does not sound very convenient, and although supposedly parts and labour free still involves the expense of two trips to the distant dealer (as i cannot imagine they will do anything while you wait).

I would be interested to know whether choosing to have the "fix" legally disqualifies any subsequent action.
