Only the other day i was thinking, where have all the stories about robberies from caravans and the occupants being gassed gone...and there it was on the radio claim after claim that somebodies [Jenson button] house had been robbed and they surely had been gassed! because it happened in France and sources close to the police had confirmed it. yep i make no bones about it how the media jump on any scrap of making a story before checking the facts.. oh and no official or police spokesman confirmed anything. . so i wonder how long now till the gassing stories come around again! I'm now keeping a look out for large HGV vehicles full of expensive anaesthetic parking next to me!

I dont understand why anatheisists need so much training and equipment to monitor a patient if thieves can do it so easily and with so little kit

An eminent anaesthetist, the top UK dog, said what allegedly happened to Jensen was technically impossible.
Churchill's Scientific advisor said there was no way the Germans had developed a rocket. How history repeats itself

I would take the word of an eminent scientist over a journalist, or an overpaid racing driver.

More likely their food or drinks were spiked if they were knocked out, as stated. ;)
The internal volume of a mansion must be enormous for any gas to fill and still be effective.

You've driven a Formula 1 car have you? If you had, you'll know that they earn every penny of their pay.

History is fact.
Good job Winston listened to RV Jones , not Lindemann.

No I have not driven a formula 1 car, and I have not been gassed either.
But it's my opinion all sportsmen/women are vastly overpaid for what they do and just because he is a celebrity, it does not make his story any more believable.

Hello Dusty,

I have to disagree with you on this one.

First of all the comparison with war time comment is completely unfair.

Consider the facts that at the time the Nazi's would have had a major security blanket around the project and there was no prior history or knowledge about rocketry of the type they developed so intelligence would have been difficult to gather. A fairer counter argument, consider the expert advice Mr Blair had about the WMD in Iraq!

This topic of gassing has been bubbling along for a long time now. and it really doesn't ring true. Compared to the early development of incendiary rocketry, there is plenty of knowledge about anesthetics. It would be entirely reasonable for a anesthetist to offer a cogent argument based on the wide scope of knowledge available.

How much gas would be needed to fill a house, yet alone a mansion to a level that would ensure all the occupants were subdued? Its not a small cylinder like the dentist has, it would have to be a massive tanker. Then there are the practicalities of delivering into the house, and what about all the natural ventilation that would there, don't forget this was in the height of summer, windows would be open, draughts under doors, and any chimneys they may have. It would be very difficult to get the necessary narcotic density of gas distributed adequately around the whole property

What about the cost to the criminals, they would have to obtain the gas and all the ancillary equipment needed, That wouldn't come cheaply, so they would have to be dead certain there was enough value in the heist to make it worthwhile.

Now lets consider a more macabre problem. Most anesthetic gasses are highly inflammable which is one of the reasons why hospital theatres are all very well earthed, and all the gear used and worn naturally discharges static buildup. These criminals are unlikely to trained in the use of this gas, How would they know when enough has been delivered to subdue the occupants?.

If this modus operandi were as common as the stories would have us believe, I am fairly sure that by now we would have heard of fatalities, either from too much gas, or the other elephant in the house which is the gas igniting and setting the property on fire.

If Jeson and his party were drugged, it's infinitely more likely to have been through ingestion with food or drink.

Ironically I composed this comment before seeing the items in the newspapers, and virtually all the point I have made are echoed there. The Mail online :-
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3189403/Were-Jenson-Button-wife-REALLY-gassed-thieves-French-police-pour-doubt-theory-saying-F1-ace-based-claim-solely-chauffeur-feeling-sick.html

remembers the incident in Russia when the authorities tried to anesthetize the occupied theatre, and even with the control the military could muster, there were fatalities.

Lets stop these ill informed scaremongering comments now.

too late prof. these type of stories have been doing the rounds for a fair few years now. i recall going into a caravan shop about 5 years back and being offered a gas detector! which i declined and the store owner telling me just how big a problem caravanners being gassed and robbed had become...this latest story in my mind is just an extension.Bit worrying though that the media with no evidence, canstill get away with printing such stories, that no doubt can and will worry people because no offical source ever comes forward to reject such stories..

Well done Prof. I'm with you. Load of rubbish: urban myth. People just sleep much more heavily than they think they do! And any excess alcohol consumption just adds to this.

that would be true if sports were a life long career but it's not couple of years if there lucky then what empty bins 5 days a week, ask Jules Bianchi or Ayrton Senna or Marco Simoncelli how their retirement is going, oh forgot you can't their dead.

There are lots of other occupations where people die, all of which are of more use to society than motor racing.
As for emptying bins for a living, we would all be in a mess if nobody did it and I am sure that those that do the job would like to thank you for your attempt to belittle them.

Bad choice of words there Colin.
My FIL was a dustman for 25 years. He was a very good chap, clever , could do the cryptic crosswords and brought up a family of three kids.
It's not the job but the person who counts :)
My apologies I have gone off course but please can we avoid denigrating certain professions.

and prey tell why, suggesting a sportman who retires at 35 from the only thing they know is belittling or denigrating a job that they may be able to do once they no longer compete,
I actually know a dustman who was an international rugby player, a professional boxer who is a steel erector, a footballer who is a forklift driver and a long distance runner who is a postman.
they have to do something for the next 30years dont they the money doesn't last that long, why not a dustman.
