Buying pet medication online

My pet has what is known as 'dry eye' and over the past 4+ years I have been getting her medication from my local vet. Each Optimmune tube (.5g) costs £38 (£26.25 online), and lasts 3-4 weeks! This is a life-long problem and she is only 4 yrs 4 mths old.

£4+ for 1 Drontal plus tablet (online £1.77 per tablet)

£35+ for 6 Frontline sachets (online £19.68 for the same)

I realise, of course, that vets have to make a living, but I see no reason why pet owners should be held to ransom in this way.

She has had her annual booster this week at the cost of £36.40p! Luckily she is a much loved pet and we can afford this. But it made me wonder how many people just forego getting boosters for their pet(s)?

Even with having to return for a Shearing test (for her eye) each 4 months at a cost of £19.99 + vat I am still saving a considerable amount on her renewal script.

Vets cannot reasonably deny their customers a free repeat prescription from last year.

Anyone interested on this online company? I am willing to post the details. Hope the Moddy doesn't take this off forum.

Hi Ann

If it's the Australian website, then I have used it a few times myself, for things like Frontline and Drontal.

The postage is brilliant, they get things to you within a couple of days, and it's a sight cheaper than going to the vets.

I would certainly be interested - any hint on what to "google for" ? - probably easier to point people in the right direction this way than any other.

As an aside - I struggled to find some spares for my old Range Rover a few years back and a friend suggested contacting a spares specialist in Sydney.

The had the bits I wanted in stock, at 20% of the price I was quoted over here and even with postage I still saved over 70%. The exchange rate is certainly in our favour as well.

Excellent service and they even threw in one of their company hats as a goodwill gesture. Nice people to do business with!

So not just vetinary products are worth getting from down under.

No its not an Aussie company!!! No its not Pet Megastore!!!

Take a look at the following which is a British Company:

www.vet-medic.com

I was informed of this company by the Breeder who supplied my pet. It doesn't only deal in prescription medicines either. I emailed them originally as there was no mention of Optimmune on their site. They were very helpful and emailed a reply very quickly. All prices include vat and p&p.

Correction: my tube of Optimmune is 3.5g (not 0.5g).

Hope this is helpful to all.

Hi Ann

I'll take a look at that site in a bit.

I have a friend who is a pharmacist. On numerous occasions, I've taken the drug containers to him (cremes and drops, not tablets given orally) prescribed by my vet for the dogs, cats rabbits or horse/s. On most of the items he can match the product to one containing the same ingredients (meant for humans). For instance, an anti fungal creme prescribed for one of my dogs by the vet cost
