We have attended 3 such rallies duirng the past years and I have mixed views on them. We avoided any type of rallying for 35 years of caravanning but were persuaded to attend a C&CC winter rally in Spain in 2008. After much research re routes etc we arrived at the rally site. The site was gross and if we hadn't paid up front would have turned round and gone elsewhere. However we decided to stick it out for a few days (we were "booked in" for 28 days) and then decide what to do. In the event it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience due, in the main, to the enthusiastic and harworking stewards. using the 'van on board faciliteis we found the site acceptable, the rally goers were friendly and welcoming and the entertainment enjoyable, if simple, and possibly not what you would choose to do in different circumstances. Our next rally was in the Sept of 2009 in France and was not as enjoyable, the site was first class but the rally was too big, and the stewards not as enthusiastic as the previous ones and, all in all, disappointing. Our last and so far final rally was a winter rally again, in 2009 in Spain. The site was excellent, the stewards first class and the whole rally most enjoyable, even if the format was the basic format of the previous rallies we had attended. We should have joined another winter rally this year but had to cancel because of health issues. So my advice would be go for it - but do your homework, I would research the sites on offer and the area the rally is being held, so that you can do your own thing if the rally programme is to your liking, the number of units on the rally, go for a smaller number of units rally, and if possible find out a little bit about the stewards as in all walks of life you can get the good, bad and indifferent. Cost wise - on our first rally I considered it good value, but latterly seeing the costs, I am not so sure. With ACSI card or Camping Cheques I believe you make up your itinerary cheaper, but you miss out on the camaraderie etc.
