Hello again everyone,

I am looking to buy a portable gas bbq but can't decide which of these two to buy Cadac or Billyoh? Anyone have one? Can you use lavarock on these? Any advise would be very much appreciated. Thank you. Niki

Hi Niki, we have a cadac safari chef, because there is only two of us, we think its fantastic, lots of different cooking options, i do cooked breakfasts, steaks, etc.

My brother has the large cadac, he thinks it's great too, i would say choose the model upon the number of people you are cooking for.

No lava rocks, just really even gas cooking, fantastic!

regards, Andrew.

Hi I have had a cadac for the past season, I bought the safari, the small portable one, excellent. There are normally only two of us although have used for four. It stands only 12 -18 inches off ground an ideal height for cooking from comfortable camping chair spatula in one hand and glass of wine in other. Excellent product can be used as oven, wok BBQ and griddle + easy to clean.

Niki,

In 2003 we bought a Cadac "Skottel Braai" from my favourite camping shop in Holland - and saved 50% on the UK prices, but that's another story - and it worked really well for us - we're both veggies so have slightly different cooking needs

But there are a few negatives - the Cadac burner doesn't really have enough heat output to use a wok (or the braai - shallow wok) cooker - but it's more than hot enough to damage the Teflon coated grill plate because the flame control isn't that precise - and the early model was very sensitive to drafts blowing out the flame.

So after talking with a few Dutch colleagues - we sold the Cadac - and bought a "boiling ring" (made by Foker in Italy - about 20 Euro) which has a very healthy 4kW heat output - and a paella pan (10 Euro).

The boiling ring sits on an aluminium caravanning table - and is now at the right height for cooking - the extra heat makes using a wok (braai) much better than the Cadac, the gas control is much better than the Cadac, and you can use it to cook potatoes or anything else like a real curry - outside when it's hot or if you don't want the van to smell.

So a boiling ring is much cheaper than a Cadac and more flexible - and worthy of consideration.

Robert
