Your problem is that the quickest route is also the most expensive! Mappy.fr quickest route quotes 1192 kilometres, taking 12 hours 47 minutes of driving, costing 163.52 euros in fuel, and 143.50 in tolls (towing a trailer). However, non-toll is 1411 kilometres and takes 21 hours of driving. Viamichelin takes a slightly different route but costs around the same. SatNav will probably take you a different way again. At the end of the day it's a long way, and it's going to cost a lot to get there (either in time, or in money) so really it's up to you to decide whether to go for the speed, and pay - or save money, but pay for it in time instead. There isn't one 'better' route - just down to personal preference.

If you go through Switzerland then you'll also have to buy a Vignette for the car (not sure about the boat) which costs around 40 euros but is valid for a year!
